The Urban Dictionary defines a “romancapade” as “a romantic act or incident involving excitement, daring and adventure”. It can also refer to a romantic getaway. Whether your idea of a romantic break involves as much action as the word “romancapade” suggests, or whether you are more inclined towards rest and relaxation, Stellenbosch is the perfect destination.
We look at a few of the unique establishments in town to use as a base while re-kindling the romance with your significant other.
Coopmanhuijs Boutique Hotel and Spa
This iconic hotel, situated in the oldest part of town, is not only a 5-star boutique hotel and spa but also a National Monument. Dating back to 1713, it was meticulously renovated over a period of three years before celebrating its grand opening in 2010. On the banks of the Eerste River, you will find Die Laan, which means “The Avenue”, lined with majestic oak trees and displaying beautiful architecture. Here two adjacent historic manor houses were combined to create the River Manor Boutique Hotel. Described as “a gloriously romantic setting”, the hotel is conveniently situated with easy access to all Stellenbosch has to offer. Van Der Stel Manor
Hidden away in one of the oldest and most popular suburbs of Stellenbosch, Mostertsdrift, you will find Van der Stel Manor. Each of the suites and rooms in the beautifully restored Cape Dutch home, built in 1910, has access to either a private balcony or patio. Light meals and breakfast can be enjoyed under the trees in the manicured garden. The well-known Lanzerac Wine Estate is situated just 1 km from the Van Der Stel Manor, and the old town is a leisurely stroll or short uber ride away in the opposite direction.
