Whether you are going home for the holidays or getting ready to say goodbye to Stellenbosch for the long haul – I am sure that there are many things you have wanted to do, but never got around to. Well, here is your daily reminder to make the most of your time here in Stellenbosch. Find a list of things that I have compiled on my Stellies bucket list below, to be completed before my 2022 goodbye.

Jonkershoek Waterfall Hike

It is astonishing that many people still do not know about the trails at Jonkershoek. Visiting the waterfall is a must if you are looking for a rejuvenating dip, especially as the weather turns to summer.

Cost: R50 entrance
Pro-tip: Try to drive in as the trail starts further into the nature reserve, otherwise you might spend a while walking before starting the hike!

Last Saturday at the Rupert Museum

Every last Saturday of the month, the Rupert Museum holds a ‘Museum Saturday’ filled with activities to ‘make the museum your home!’ These activities take place from 10:00 am until 3:30 pm and entrance is free. Bookings for the events can be made at www.rupertmuseum.org/events.

A concert at the Endler Hall, Stellenbosch Konservatorium

The Konservatorium houses Stellenbosch University’s Department of Music, as well as many music events throughout the year. Placed conveniently in Stellenbosch Central, this venue offers an escape from the buzz with a range of different productions. For the remainder of 2022, there are:

  • 19 November: Stellenbosch University Jazz Band Fundraising Concert
  • 26 November: Libertas Choir presents from Mozart to Verdi: Opera Highlights
  • 27 November: Libertas Choir presents from Mozart to Verdi: Opera Highlights

Go to a That Eclectic event

That Eclectic hosts a collection of cool and conscious events in a beautiful garden space on Herte Street. It seems that they are in collaboration with the Johnman Concerts and Garden, with dreamy and intentional music, art, poetry, and comedy stand-up shows as part of their offerings. Their current project, Metamorphosis A Group Exhibition, is ending on 30 October, so be sure to keep a lookout for upcoming events on their Instagram.

There are endless possibilities when you combine Stellenbosch and a day (or hour) off! Be sure to embody your adventurous spirit as the year draws to a close and leave with no bucket list regrets –you never know what 2023 holds, especially in an ever-changing town like Stellenbosch.
