Something is always happening in Stellenbosch, and sometimes it becomes difficult to follow – but, if you’re here on holiday, recently freed from exams, or visiting your kids at university, here is a nightlife schedule to keep you occupied in the city of oaks.

Monday – Wine and Dine

Monday night in Stellenbosch is usually reserved for dining out, and there are plenty of options. Andringa Street offers you Lebanese food at Man’oushe, Church Street gives you a taste of Italy at Rome in a Bite, or you can indulge in sushi on Bird Street at Genki. And for dessert – most ice cream and gelato places are open until the late hours of the night.

Tuesday – Karaoke at Aandklas

Want to show off your singing voice? Aandklas will provide! From your ABBA classics to even opera (the music students often take the Aandklas stage), whether you come to sing or simply enjoy the show, it is guaranteed that you will have a fun time. Karaoke usually starts at 20:00, but we recommend you down some drinks before you start. Plus, it’s free (minus the drinks, of course).

Wednesday – Wine Soirée on Drostdy Street

Whether you drink red, white or rosé, there is something for everyone. At the entrance, you will be presented with a glass and ten tokens. Use your ten tokens to fill your glass with local wines and meet their makers. Buy your tickets online for R150 for guaranteed entrance, but if you arrive early, you can try your luck at the door. Definitely the best opportunity to taste Stellenbosch.

Thursday – Quiz Night at The Courtyard Café

Put all your stored-away general knowledge to good use. Even if you do not end up coming first, it is promised that you will have a good time. Starting at 20:00, The Courtyard Café offers multiple prizes, from bar tabs to shots and milkshakes.

Friday – Lay of the Land

Town is bustling on Friday nights, and we recommend you join in on Stellenbosch’s thriving nightlife. As a student who holds firm opinions, I advise you to avoid Mystics and NuBar and instead opt for Andringa’s hotspots: Dorp or Bohemia, maybe even Fool’s Gold on Dorp Street. If you do go for De Lapa – which we highly do not recommend – make sure to keep an eye on your drink.

Saturday – Stargazing at Coetzenberg

The view from the Coetzenberg dam is stellar, particularly at night. Break away from the town to catch a glimpse of the far-off lights and our night sky. We recommend you do not undertake this activity alone, but it is the perfect location for a picnic under the stars. Pro tip: time your stargazing adventure with loadshedding to see even more stars than usual.

Sunday – Bingo at Bohemia

Winning free shots could not be easier! Every Sunday from 18:00, Bohemia offers its famous bingo night. Stand a chance to win free shots, prize hampers and more! This event is a great team-building experience, an opportunity to get tipsy real fast or preparation for days in the old age home.
